Have a setup working fine for years until a routine Windows update on Nov 10, which made one just one of my desktop computers unable to see my diskstation on the network. It could see it via IP address but it did not exist on the network as far as this PC was concerned.

All other computers were able to access their mapped drives as usual. Long story short, I must have tried different suggestions from numerous web sites with no success. I knew it had to be related to the Windows update so I continued to search for update related problems until I came across this site and this DNS service fix which turned out to be the cause of my problem. Thank you WimNeyens for sharing this! I had a similar issue and nothing I tried here helped.

My issue was after the 20H2 update, it disabled my DNS Client service, which was blocking all of my network shares. I couldn’t even manually type network shares and get to them. The DNS Client service was grayed. Shut down and Restart in Windows Revert the Installation of a Pirated Windows. Skip to main content. Find threads, tags, and users Current Visibility: Visible to all users. Hi, Please let us know if you have any update on this case.

Thank you, Sunny. SMB1 issue resolved. Comment Show 0. Please kindly check if DSPatrick’s answer was helpful. MarkFalzarano If you do a ping to your server name, do you see his local IP address? Don’t know if it will be the same problem, but you can verify in your trouble shooting. This fixed my problem, thanks. I was able to ping hostname and IP, but couldn’t browse the share. I hope that it works for you. Hope this helps for you too.

Thanks so much, took all day to find this and get it working! None of the above worked for me, including the registry edit. Since we updated our organzations desktops to Win7, network browsing is very slow. We have a few applications rely on network shared folders. Since Win 7 these apllicaions failing left and right. That only solves some of my problems.

Most end users think this is our incompetancy but it is realy Microsoft’s. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Try updating the Network Adapter drivers and check for the issue. Go to the device manager to do so.

Look for the Network Adapter and expand it. Now right click on it and select Properties. Delete temporary files. Your computer stores temporary files for programs you often use to speed up its performance, but too many temporary files can slow things down. Switch web browsers. Your default browser may not be optimized for your internet connection, so try downloading the file in a different browser. Turn off the metered connection.

If you set a metered connection to limit data usage, disable it to maximize download speeds. Turn off background apps. Applications that run in the background and use the internet can interfere with download speeds, so disable any apps that take up a lot of bandwidth and resources.

Use a download manager. Some download managers can download files from multiple sources simultaneously, allowing for faster download speeds.

Switch DNS servers. Experiment to find out which server works best for you. Disable automatic Windows updates. Windows downloads and installs the latest OS updates automatically, so turn off this feature to make sure it doesn’t interfere with your other downloads.

Change the bandwidth limit. Windows reserves bandwidth for itself to update Microsoft apps and services. Fortunately, you can adjust the bandwidth limits in your settings to prioritize downloads. Upgrade your internet plan. Your internet package limits your connection speed.

WD Discovery is available to all software users as a free download for Windows. We have tested WD Discovery against malware with several different programs. Oct 22,  · My problem is simple: network discovery is way too slow when using Windows Server R2 or Windows 7. I have hunted around the Internet only to find guesses as to the real problem, with no definitive solution. So I thougth I’d post the question here. I run a Windows Workgroup with 3 computers: Win 7, Server R2 and an XP s: 6. Apr 17,  · Clicking on Network in explorer is very slow. On my home computer, the green bar appears top of screen takes quite a while to find computers (a minute or two). I only have 3 computers! On the corporate computers at work, it takes about 1 hour to complete and finds computers in remote areas · I remember the problem when I moved to Vista a few years.
